Rob's Bear

Rob and my brother went hunting for a day on the island. After seeing nothing all day long, ready to pack it in for the day, they spotted this bear.
I was pretty impressed with my mother's flexibility and openness as the hide was kept in her deep freeze, the  head in their garage, and the meat carefully butchered on their back patio and then coiled into many many sausages in her kitchen.... good thing the sausage turned out! After we all took turns tasting the meat, it passed the test. It is good. We now have 48 pounds of bear meat to eat until we leave for Madagascar.

Definitely not illegal to hunt bear. Rob had to have a hunting license and tag, of course. But BC is littered with black bear! So many in fact that if you have bear troubles in your community, conservation won't relocate them, they just come and take them away.. period. I am thankful the kids enjoyed the sausage. I admit, I was a bit worried about this one tasting a little.... gamey?
Glad your parents enjoyed their visit with us. We were also blessed by their presence there.
Will definitely call you if we head up to Quadra. It will likely be December sometime.
