"We don't yet see things clearly. We're squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won't be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We'll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us! But for right now, until that completeness, we have three things to do to lead us toward consummation: Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love." - 1 Cor. 13:12-13 MSGWhen God doesn't answer our prayers the way we'd hoped; when we're left questioning outcomes, Scripture is pretty clear on our understanding of things. Also, it's clear about who to trust, who to keep trusting.
Little Sofina did not survive the recovery after the surgery, and many of us are left asking Why? The way we see it, a successful medical intervention could have been a door into this village, which has had very few missionaries visit to begin with. We saw it as a way to bring opportunities to their lives, to offer Sofina a more "normal" life. But our understanding of God's bigger purposes, the Big Picture, is so limited. God is completely holy and righteous, and everything He does is good. So we continue to trust, and give glory to Him. We praise Him, because so many hearts were turned to Him in prayer. We praise Him because we bore witness to how He orchestrates details. We praise Him, because He ultimately holds the world in His hands---this village and its people too.
